Home Away From Home with our Home

In Citrus Heights as Sister’s House

Arriving at my Sister's House

Arrived at my sister’s house at 2:20 pm.  Had a welcoming committee which surprised us…

Welcoming Committe when arriving at my Sister's House

That is my mom and dad, nearly 178 years of living between the two of them, and coming up on 70 years as a married couple, probably closer to 72 years of loving each other.  They arrived about an hour before we did, and waited outside for at least a half hour…thank goodness it was a mild afternoon with temps in the 70 range.  Arny made the sign, and they sat there waiting our arrival…and stood up as soon as we turned the corner to enter the cul-de-sac.

Bubba happy to see us, but...

Bubba waited patiently at the sliding glass door until we got the motorhome safely tucked away in the backyard…and then I let him out, and he went to see his mama.  Bubba is nearly 15 years old, and has been with Marcia for over 14 years.  He was happy, gave her some friendly wags as only Bubba does, sat up on the chair for some pictures by Marcia, and then out the door again to see if Skruffy was getting into his food and ‘his’ territory.  Yes, she went over and smelled it…thank goodness she went on to other smells and did not eat any of it.  It was quickly taken up from floor as Bubba will now be on Skruffy’s eating schedule again, along with what ever else he gets from Arny’s mother Euleda’s meals.  Yes, Bubba was happy to see us…but he is also feeling like that child who has been at Grandma’s house for a week (3 months in his case) and LOVED the freedom and attention and Love that he received.

Sister Sandy giving out afternoon treats

When sister Sandy got home from work at 4, the dogs get their afternoon treat.  Bubba gets dog treats, Skruffy get about an ounce of fried pork loin.  They look forward to their morning and afternoon treats…we wonder if Skruffy realizes how many treats Bubba got that she did not get while we were away for nearly 3 months.

L-R: Sandy, Euleda, Mom, Dad

As we waited for Arny to return from KFC with the chicken dinner, we all sat around and visited.  From left to right, that is Sandy (sister), Euleda, Mom and Dad…Marcia was sitting next to me.

New visitor in backyard....a duck

We were told that they have been having a regular visitor while we were gone….do you see it out there on the lawn?

New visitor in backyard....a duck   New visitor in backyard....a duck

Four wild ducks have been frequenting their backyard, and tonight one of the Mallards came to say hello to the new people with the loud dog…which scared it off when she came out to do her business after dinner around 7:30.  Now with Bubba, the ducks just played with him…one coming up to the sliding glass door and knocking on it with its beak until Bubba came to the door.  When outside, Bubba would chase it, it would fly to another part of the grass, and they would play like this for awhile.

Around 6 I took mom and dad back to the Independent Living Facility, came back and fed the dogs.  Wondered how Bubba would do since he has eaten when he wanted for the past 3 months…but he ate all his food faster than Skruffy ate her food.  Out they went (which is when Skruffy scared the Duck away), and back in after 10 minutes for the night.  Now Bubba has been getting up around 4:30 for the past 3 months…we will have to see how long it will take for that to change.  It is so nice to be at our home, away from home, in our home.  Motorhome life is just WONDERFUL!

Trip from Bakersfield to Citrus Heights

As for our trip today…we left at 8:15, got gas just north of Bakersfield, and continued up Highway 99 to the first rest area where we had breakfast.  Got up to Citrus Heights at 2:20 … a 6 hour trip, 141 hours from Florida to Northern California...WOW.  YOU KNOW why they call it Highway 99 don’t you?  Because you go about 9 miles down the road, and that last mile you hit about 99 pot holes, just to start over again…a few miles of good road, followed by a mile or two of REAL BAD roads, over and over and over again.  Sorry Nancy, but YOUR town gets the ribbon for THE WORSE portion of highway 99.  We honestly thought we were back up in the Yukon like we were two years ago…it was BAD BAD BAD.  Let’s hope the NEW GAS TAX that uncle Jerry Brown put in a few months ago will actually go to ROADS this time…but my guess is, it will go to fighting legal battles against a President who they just despise and hate so very much…and that is as political as my blog gets.  Honestly though, I truly don’t think Jerry’s father Pat is looking down from wherever he is and smiling at his son’s actions…but again, this is just my observation.

  1. Are you kidding? The new gas tax is going to the high speed rail disaster!! I've no idea why they don't fix that part of the highway. It's the only part in all of California that hasn't been repaired. And I just got a text message that now they are working on repairing Delhi to Turlock, which was just done about two years ago! WHAT THE HECK??? Personally, I always drive in the LEFT lane through that section. If people want to pass, they can drive through the potholes!! LOL

    1. Honestly, we did not see any construction along any of highway 99. It was also pretty bad as soon as you enter Fresno County.
