Glennallen to Anchorage Area

Chugach Mountain Range, Glenn Highway between Glennallen and Palmer

The picture above and below overlap, but looked better this way than a full panoramic due to where the sun was.  It was a beautiful sight of the Chugach Mountain Range, which stretches from Valdez over to Anchorage area.

Lots and lots of Glacier’s today.  In fact, there is a small community called Glacier View near this spot.

Another view of how we were surrounded by mountains.

Chugach Mountains to our left, Talkeetna Mountains to our right (below) and at times we were also headed right for more of the Chugach Mountains.

And the big attraction of the day is the Matanuska Glacier, 27 miles long by 4 miles wide, it is the largest glacier accessible by car in the United States.  A few thousand years ago it is estimated that the glacier covered another 50 miles to Palmer, near where we are staying north of Anchorage.  Depending on the weather, we hope to return to this area and drive our car closer to the glacier.

We got to the RV park at 2 pm, by 3 pm I was over at Walgreens with our empty bottles of meds, and by 6:30 we were sitting in the car line at Walgreens to pick them up.  Now in Florida, if you are in a car line, you typically are done with business within 15 minutes on a busy day, 5 minutes average.   We were the fourth car, and it took 45 minutes to get to the window.  Even though the Pharmacist told me himself that our meds would be ready to pick up by 5:30, I am asked to come inside because they need another 5-10 minutes to finish one of Marcia’s.  Inside my name is called within 5 minutes, but it takes another 10 minutes before a window opens up for me pick them up.  Now when we were “at the drive up window”, they had all three stations working inside, no one at the drive up.  When I go inside, they have one station working inside, and a person at the drive through.  WOW, we are not in Florida anymore, that’s for sure.   However, we got our meds, the price was the same as what we pay in Florida, perhaps a few dollars less, so we are happy.

NOTE:  none of our pills are happy pills.  Winking smile
