Man Plans, God Laughs

wfla-1

Awoke this morning to a text from brother-in-law Mike, “Saw fire at RV storage in Palm Harbor on news….”.  Heart skips a beat…

gannett-1

I immediately get on the internet, type in palm harbor rv storage fire, and I quickly see this picture, knowing that it was where we stored our RV.  I don’t say anything to Marcia as I go out to the car and get the Storage Agreement, verify the name, and I break the news to her.

Above, in the first storage bin, is where we were parked.  “Was” parked….

I think they said there were some 30+ RVs, cars and boats….all gone.   I call Blue Mountain, and the lady says they already had three phones calls this morning.  Adjuster will call us within 24 hours.

Goodbye sweet girl… .thanks for the safe travels you provided, the warm memories, we thought we had more memories to share with you… .but we are just not in control, and our plans have been drastically changed.

note:  we know "God" is not laughing at our loss, our heartache, just the fact that "his" children think that "they" are in charge....we know now, and already knew, that "HE" is and always will be in charge.

  1. Ohhhh.. that's bad news. How disappointing for your trip plans. At least you should have no problems with the insurance company. Hope it all works out.

    1. Thank you Tony, as you know, tragedy can strike any time, any place....you just have to make the best of it. Too early to make plans right now, but we know Alaska trip is out for now because we are not going to buy something else and just head up to Alaska with out a real breaking in, that's for sure.

    3. They are correct, you sign away liability from the storage place. However, if they find it was faulty wire due to the facility, I don't think they can get out of that. But that is between the various insurance companies to work out. I was impressed that we already heard from the insurance adjuster....filling out all this paperwork is going to take awhile, that is for sure.

  2. Dave and Marcia, How happy we are (and truly blessed) to hear that YOU are okay and apparently no one was injured or worse! You probably said it best, during this apparent set-back, what we should be asking ourselves everyday, "We think we are in 'control'...really?!" We hope and pray that this set-back is the better part of a greater plan that the Master has in store for you. Our prayers continue on your behalf and we are looking forward to seeing you soon. Our love to both of you, Don & Sheri (Salinas, CA)

  3. I am so sorry that this has happened to you. Of course, it can be replaced, but it is still a hard pill to swallow.

  4. What a wonderful attitude you have:) We saw the fire on the news tonight. So very sorry to learn you were one of the many RVs lost. But thank goodness it didn't involve life just material goods that can be replaced. As you mentioned, just a temporary set back. But it is still difficult to handle. Thinking of you and Marcia:)

    1. Not the way we wanted to "get on the news", rather get fame like my son did in previous post (lol). Yep, it has been a big news story around here. Still have not had the nerve to drive by and look at it...perhaps tomorrow, need to get pictures, that's for sure. Thanks for you thoughts...

  5. Oh Dave how awful for you both! So sad to lose a love like that. Do they know what caused the fire? I'm just so sorry for all you've lost and the time and trouble to get back to ground zero.

    1. You know Sherry, this is nothing like what you and David face with his medical situation....it is people like you all and Karen and Tony above who we admire. Thanks for the thoughts, always wish you and David the best.

  6. What a blessing you, Marcia, and the pups are ok. I can only imagine how horrified you must have been to get this news. But God does take care of us and never gives us more than we can handle.

    1. Talk about extreme emotions...go to be Monday still chuckling over the antics of my oldest son, awake in the morning to the death of this summer's dream trip. Life goes on, no one hurt, but as Marcia says, for many months we will be looking for something and go, "Must have lost it in the fire..." Listing everything and finding prices for the insurance adjuster is a real big chore.

  8. Well, Rick and I certainly know how you feel. It's a lot of work to replace everything, but fun to get some new things as well. Maybe you can schedule some trips soon that will be fun.

    1. Yes cousin Cassie, you and Rick know how it feels since your trailer burned down in front of your eyes in your own yard. As for trips, we were headed out again next week...not any more, but Marcia is already shopping for our next one. :)
