Turkey, Games, Family, Grooming

Yep, we had turkey….deep-fried turkey Thanksgiving Day, turkey and roast beef sandwiches on Friday, and turkey soup Saturday and Sunday.  Add to that our trimmings, pies….well, you get the drift.

And I did get to see some football, and I was lucky in that the one I watched the most was the now famous Alabama vs Auburn game.  Had given up on it during the start of the 4th quarter, just to come back to it with 58 seconds left in the game.  WOW.  The only better college finish that I can remember that was better was “The Play”, Cal vs Stanford in 1982 when with 4 seconds left in the game Stanford scored going ahead of Cal by 20-19.  On the ensuing kickoff return the Stanford Band came onto the field midway through the return, believing that the game was over, and Cal did run the kickoff back for a touchdown after many laterals between Cal players.  As the Cal player ran into the end zone, he ran over a trombone player.  Anyway, you put together Coach Saban’s insistence that there was a second left on the clock, giving Alabama the opportunity for a “Hail Mary” 57 yard field goal from a freshman kicker, which was not a bad kick, but did not make it to the back of the end zone allowing the Auburn player to take it the full length of the field for a Auburn win.

And our family gathered together…..about a dozen of us at the dinner, including my oldest son Michael.  Friday I took Michael back to the Berkley area, which was not a fun drive with all the traffic going to and from various malls and outlet stores on Black Friday.

After church, fun and games were over….it was time to get back to business again.  The dogs were due for a good grooming again, so I listened to the 49ers game, I first groomed Bubba, and then Skruffy.  Then each had a quick cleaning from the outside shower of the motorhome so that they would  have nice, warm water.  Amazingly, they seemed to handle the warmer water than they did the cold water back in October on a hot day.  And I got a good payoff for my hard work….the Niners beat the Rams again, that’s always a nice thing.

I also did a little fiddling with our blog.  I moved our travel maps over to their own tab instead of at the bottom of the blog.  For those of you who get the blog via email, you can view this new page by clicking here.  We nearly have two years under our belt now, and every place we have stayed at, visited, took day trips to, are all included on these two maps, with links back to the blog posting to make it easier to see what we said about the area.  I’s like to say it is just the Librarian in me…but I saw this on a few other blogs and saw the huge value in it.  It is a lot of work to keep it current, and I did not link into the blog the first year and it took much time to go back and enter these onto the map.  I just hope that others who are visiting areas that we traveled to get some use out of these maps.

  1. I'm finding that keeping the blog is very time-consuming, but fun, too. You're right that having each location linked to the appropriate post is lots of work. Thank you for all the effort.
In reference to that Stanford-Cal game in 1982. I was there!!! We chose the Cal Bears to follow on a yearly basis for our family, even though neither of us was an alumnus. It was a family thing .... at each home game in Berkeley, we'd eat lunch at Spenger's and then head to the campus and sit in the family season ticket holders section. Lots of family fun and that game was the best I've ever experienced. It should be on YouTube ... think I'll check.

    1. Back in '82 I was General Manager of a restaurant, and having Saturdays off just was not in the cards. But I remember seeing the replays over and over and over, and yes, it is on YouTube, at least the last play is. Glad I was able to bring back some family memories for you Mary-Pat. --Dave

  4. I keep thinking I really should include a map, but I have enough trouble with writing. Good job on it.

    1. Thank you. No doubt that I to play catch-up on the map now and then...but rarely get behind by more than a few postings. I do know that people find the maps from outside of my blog because the two maps have over 25,000 views between the two. Some of these people then click on the blog link. I think these blogs we all do are so helpful to others, besides allowing us to communicate with family and friends, and make new friends....most of whom travel as we do.
