RV Storage–Look Back at Glacier National Park

8a

This is the first time we have had to put one of our motorhomes into storage.  There is a very uncomfortable feeling about doing this, and I think we made a very choice in what we did.  We decided upon a storage facility which is covered, has 30amp to keep the fridge going and batteries charged, and if needed, we can have the AC going too, but it will cost an extra $30 per month.  (Down here in Florida it would be a wise thing to do for 6-8 months per year.  I think we will be fine until May 1st. but we will have to evaluate that in April.

My other concern was how to get the motorhome into such a tight area without hurting it, and even more important, a neighbor’s RV.  We were lucky in that this Allegro to our right was gone when we moved in….and the other side is a wall.  If when we take it out for a few days, and we will, our neighbor is still there…we will just go head first.  Being on the end this will be easy to do since there is a side road on the other side of the wall…and when I say road, I don’t mean a public road…it is all behind a security gate, another plus in our choice.  Now the cost…well, it was $700 for 3 1/2 months paid up front.  Not much we could do about that….

In 2012 we visited Glacier National Park in August…it was a hot summer…too much of the snow was melted, and the wildlife was scarce.  But the beauty of this National Park is beyond words.  It was the first visit for both of us, and we wish we would have had time to stay longer…five days were not long enough.

I wish Marcia had the ability to go where I am able to go to….like this walk that I did at Logan Pass.  I don’t like to do very long hikes…never have…but I enjoy the hikes that I have done…this was a very nice hike.

One area we definitely want to spend more time at is the Many Glacier area….we were there for only a handful of hours because it was such a drive from the west side where we were camped.  This year, on our way to Alaska, we will be spend a few days on the east side of Glacier.  By mid to late May, most roads should be open for vehicle travel, except the Going-to-the-Sun Road….but we don’t care about that because we did that road three times in 2012.  Yes it is pretty, but we want to see more of the east side of the park…and the northern part which is in Canada.  And we sure hope to see some more wildlife this time….

I know one little girl that is anxious to get back there….

  2. Beautiful photos of Glacier; I'm looking forward to a visit - maybe this summer. The storage facility looks wonderful and she'll be ready to go whenever you are. I still hate to think of Buffy and Scruffy not with you. I hope you get to visit them often.

    1. Yes, it is not easy not having Bubba and Skruffy with us in the Condo. When you go to Glacier, give yourself time so that you can camp on both sides of the park....you have to use the southern route just below the park to get from one side to the other....no RVs our sizes over Logan Pass. "IF" you only want to camp on one side, the east side has less campers than the west side does...you can always take that smart car over the pass, of course.

    1. Yes, have a member site now. I thought this was only for Google Circles, which I refuse to join, but realized that it was for members and for Google Circles...that there is another one which is just for Google Circles. Don't ask me why I don't like Google Circles, there is no real reason other than I don't like it. Don't like Facebook either, and you won't find "me" on facebook....but you can find Skruffy on facebook. :)

  4. We are excited to get back to Glacier now that we have fallen in love with hiking. Nothing like hitting the trail for the day.

Our first visit to Many Glaciers was on a motorcycle trip. We spent two nights
at the lodge. It was like stepping back in time. Very cool experience. Sitting by the big fireplace in the evening was perfect. Give it a try!

    1. Heck, I'd love to ride a motorcycle through Glacier...but with Marcia's MS, that's not in the cards, that's for sure. Now the fireplace, that sounds wonderful!

  5. We were just there this past August. Stayed on the east side and did several hikes at Many Glacier. Also went to Two Medicine! Beautiful hardly describes it's splendor of this NP. Hope to revisit one day.

Thanks for stirring up those memories and getting my day started off with a smile!
